Cincinnati, OH – (July 11, 2025) – MidWest Eye Center (MWEC) is proud to share that its surgeons are the first in Ohio and among the first in the Midwest region to implement the groundbreaking Alcon Voyager Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT) treatment for glaucoma and ocular hypertension. This device is the first and only FDA-approved device invented of its kind. Dr. Stephan Dixon, Dr. Stephen Kondash and Dr. Sean Davitt were the first surgeons at the practice to learn and implement the new technology. The DSLT device is designed to enhance the treatment experience for both patients and doctors – highlighting the practice’s commitment to exceptional patient-centered care.
“Glaucoma, a progressive eye disease, impacts millions of people throughout our country and is also a leading cause of blindness worldwide,” said Dr. Stephan Dixon, Glaucoma Specialist at MidWest Eye Center. “Early intervention is key and having access to sophisticated treatment options like Voyager Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty is a game changer for our patients. This new technology offers a safer, faster, and more comfortable experience. By introducing patient-friendly innovations, we’re redefining the standard approach to managing and treating degenerative vision conditions for those we serve in the greater Cincinnati community – reflecting MidWest Eye Care’s ongoing commitment to provide advanced vision services, innovative solutions, and quality patient-focused care.”
The technology provides a fully automated, non-contact treatment approach, rather than the traditional selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) which requires direct eye contact and manual operation. Safer and more efficient than conventional SLT methods, the cutting-edge technology delivers 120 laser pulses automatically through the limbus to the trabecular meshwork – eliminating the need for direct eye contact, a gonioscopy lens, or a slit lamp.
Alcon first introduced the Voyager DSLT earlier this year at the American Glaucoma Society annual meeting in Washington, D.C., where attendees were able to witness the technology in action first-hand. The system features SureTrac™ eye-tracking technology which monitors and adjusts for eye movement to ensure precise laser delivery during the procedure.
